Street dance competition
Espoo Digi Dance International (EDDI) is a project of Style Dance Industry ry (SDI), a non-profit dance association established in 2017, which aims to promote urban dance culture and its benefits primarily to the residents of Espoo and beyond.
EDDI’s primary objective is to provide a platform & opportunity for content creators, cultural artists and enthusiasts in the field of dance and audio-visual technology to showcase their works, communicate and collaborate with others and inspire the community through creative activities for the common good. Different opportunities include film screenings, showcase, performances, competitions, workshops, and travels.
THE EVENT IS OPEN TO EVERYONE OF ALL AGES.
PRIZES
Cash prizes are over 2,000 euros plus other goodies.
VENUE & DATE
The event will be held on 7 April 2024, Sunday, at Opinmaki, Lillhemtie 1, 02250 in Suurpelto, Espoo from 10:00 to 21:00.

The competition is now open for submission and closes on 31 March 2024.

COMPETITION ELIGIBILITY
Everyone is welcome: male and female according to the division and age groupings. All participants must pay the entry fee and abide by the eligibility rules of Espoo Digi Dance International (EDDI).
COMPETITION ENTRY FEE:
The competition fee is only 10 euro for each participant/competitor and must be paid on or before the deadline of the application/submission which is on 31 March 2024.
A copy of the receipt of payment must be attached with the application.
For the group category, the choreographer/leader is responsible for collecting the payment from the group members.

Descriptions of terms (GROUP categorY):
Choreography - Creativity in concept, storytelling, group formations, arrangement, uniqueness and difficulty of moves/steps and relevance to the music & story being told.
Performance - Execution of steps/moves, musicality, power, grace, swag, techniques and synchronization.
Audience impact - Stage presence, costume, entertainment value and appeal to the general crowd.
Descriptions of terms (SOLO category):
Style/Musicality - how dancers interpret the music and personally express themselves through it. Special attention to sounds, detail and mood of the music.
Execution - how dancers execute the steps and show their techniques, skill level, grace and swag.
Audience Impact - how dancers look, move and present themselves on stage and engage the crowd.

COMPOSITION OF A GROUP
YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULT DIVISION
A group consists of a minimum five (5) to a maximum of ten (10) members. The members of the group may be made up of any combination of males and females.
NOTE: One (1) or two (2) participant(s) who is/are over than the age requirement is allowed to participate in the group. These persons can be the coach, trainer and/or leader.
Each participant’s proof of age will be validated by submitting to EDDI, prior to the competition:
Only government-issued ID (i.e. Kela card, passport, etc) is acceptable for proof.
COMPOSITION OF A GROUP
ADULT DIVISION
A group consists of a minimum of seven (7) to a maximum of twenty (20) members. The members of the group may be made up of any combination of males and females.
PERFORMANCE
All performances are live on stage with accompanying audio-visual background on screen which can be pre-recorded dance performances, light shows, videos and/or anything related to the dance performance. Dance performance on stage alone is NOT allowed. An audio-visual (video) background is a requirement.
MUSIC REQUIREMENTS
1. The routine must be performed to music selected and prepared by the group.
2. A group’s competition music in mp3 format must be sent to [email protected] by 31 March 2024.
3. The group name and division must be written in the email.
4. There is no maximum or minimum number of songs or recordings that may be used in the routine. The songs may be edited to enhance choreography and personal performance.
5. Sound effects and original compositions are permitted. Caution is advised against the music becoming too complex with too many edits, sound effects or songs preventing a clean and tight performance, which can negatively impact a group’s score.
6. The competition music must not contain inappropriate, lewd or offensive language.
7. Groups are required to provide the following information to EDDI prior to the event for each song used in the routine:
a. Music title
b. Artist(s)
8. Due to varying copyright laws, EDDI do not guarantee that a group’s music will be used at live events, on television, film or theatrical broadcasts or other distribution mediums. EDDI reserves the right to ask the group to replace the music for one that is acceptable, or EDDI may substitute a group’s music for another piece of music of EDDI’s choice for such situations.
PRACTICE ROUNDS
1. Unless circumstances exist that prevent a practice round, each group will be given the opportunity to practice (block) their routine to their music on the competition performance area (stage) at least once prior to the start of the Competition. The group is responsible for coming to the practice round on time or it may be forfeited.
FORMS AND RELEASES
1. Participants must complete and sign all forms, including but not limited to registration, music, and insurance information. All forms must be returned to EDDI with the appropriate registration fees prior to the competition or registration may be withheld.
2. Release of Liability: Groups must sign and submit a release of liability form prior to the competition, releasing EDDI, the organizer, staff and sponsors from liability for any accident or injury occurring to a groupmember prior to, during, or after a Espoo Digi Dance International (EDDI) event or competition.
3. Release of Likeness: All groups must sign a release of likeness form permitting Espoo Digi Dance International (EDDI) and the competition organizer, staff and sponsors to film, videotape, and/or record the groups performance(s) and event participation for use in television, motion pictures, social media, press releases, and other media related channels.
ENTRY CHANGES OR SUBSTITUTIONS
For circumstances beyond the control of the groupmember(s), substitutions of participants in the group may be made. EDDI and/or the competition director must approve such circumstances.
ATTIRE
Attire may include accessories such as hats, caps, gloves, scarves, jewelry, etc. Removing pieces of clothing during the performance is permitted provided it is not offensive or out of character. Discarded clothing should be placed outside the competition area and never thrown off the stage into the audience. Body oils or other substances applied to the body or clothing that may affect the clean dry surface of the stage and the safety of fellow competitors are prohibited. Groups may wear jazz shoes, dance boots, sneakers or athletic sport shoes. All footwear must have clean, non-scuff soles (outside/street shoes and outside/street boots are not acceptable). Tap shoes or bare feet are prohibited. Appropriate under garments must be worn by all groupmembers both male and female, at all times.
Tron-style attire with led lights is acceptable for as long as they are embedded and/or attached to the costume.
PROPS
Props that are not considered an integral part of a group’s “attire” are prohibited. Examples of these are tables, chairs, banners, skateboards, tambourines, musical instruments, and other external items which are not attached to the group’s costume.
MEDICAL ATTENTION
1. It is the responsibility of the group, coach or group administrator to report a groupmember’s injury or illness to the event organizer(s).
2. If at any time prior to or during competition a groupmember is ill, injured, or his/her physical or emotional condition is at risk by participating, he/she may be declared ineligible to compete, or disqualified from competing further. EDDI reserves the right to withdraw any competitor who appears to have such serious disability or injury or needs medical attention.
3. EDDI reserves the right to request the submittal of a physician’s written authorization for a groupmember to compete who is deemed medically or emotionally at risk by the competition organizer.
INSURANCE
All participants and competitors should have their own accident insurance. The organizers of EDDI are not responsible for the insurance of the participants and competitors.
